
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis and Treatment:
- Pediatric surgeons diagnose and treat a variety of conditions in young patients, including congenital malformations, injuries, and diseases requiring surgical procedures.
- Surgical Procedures:
- They perform a wide range of surgical procedures, from routine operations like hernia repair to complex surgeries like organ transplantation or cancer removal.
- Pre- and Post-operative Care:
- Pediatric surgeons provide comprehensive care, including pre-operative assessments, surgical procedures, and post-operative monitoring and management.
- Collaboration:
- They work closely with pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other specialists to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Education and Communication:
- Pediatric surgeons educate patients and their families about the surgical procedure, its risks and benefits, and post-operative care instructions.
- Research and Innovation:
- They may be involved in research to improve surgical techniques and outcomes in pediatric patients.
Examples of Conditions Treated:
- Congenital Anomalies: Examples include heart defects, spina bifida, and cleft palate.
- Injuries: Fractures, burns, and lacerations requiring surgical repair.
- Diseases: Appendicitis, hernias, and tumors.
- Transplantations: Organ transplants for conditions like liver or kidney failure.
- Endoscopic Procedures: Procedures like colonoscopies for diagnosis and treatment.
Requirements
Education/ Professional Qualification
- Graduate of Medical School, recognized by the Medical Council of the country of origin.
- Completion of appropriate internship and residency programs
- Post-graduate qualifications in the specialty.
Experience
- At least three (3) years of practice in his / her specialty after obtaining the higher degree in a Tertiary Care Hospital.
- Subspecialty degree or structured subspecialty training preferred.
Professional Licensing / Certification / Training
- Membership, Fellowship and/or Board Certification in respective specialty.
- Relevant licensure from the country of origin, acceptable to Saudi Commission for Health Specialty and Ministry of Health.
