A Project Finance Controller is responsible for supporting project managers and senior controllers in monitoring budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring financial compliance across projects. The role combines financial analysis with project coordination, making it ideal for early-career professionals in finance or accounting.
📝 Role Overview
A Project Finance Controller helps maintain the financial health of projects by:
- Assisting in budget preparation and forecasting
- Monitoring project expenditures against approved budgets
- Performing variance analysis and reporting findings to management
- Supporting month-end and year-end closing processes
- Ensuring compliance with company financial policies and procedures
📌 Key Responsibilities
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Expense Tracking: Monitor project costs and ensure they align with approved budgets.
- Variance Analysis: Identify discrepancies between planned and actual spending and propose corrective actions.
- Reporting: Prepare financial reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate project financial records and compliance documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvements in financial reporting and project control.
🎯 Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience: 0–5 years in finance, accounting, or project coordination (internships or entry-level roles count).
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/project management tools
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and teamwork skills
⚙️ Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with SAP, SQL, VBA, or Business Objects for financial reporting.
- Understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
- Experience in industries like engineering, or IT projects where financial control is critical.
