Job Description

Surgical technologists,  also called operating room technicians, assist  in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, anesthetists, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To assist in preparing the room for surgery
  2. Responsible for having surgical instruments, sterile bandages and linens, needed fluids, and other equipment ready for the operation. 
  3. To assist doctors by handing them the needed instruments during surgery and for supply of equipments and readiness of equipments and supply of drugs to Anesthetist. 
  4. Delivering specimens to hospital laboratories for analysis, and after operations they take patients to the recovery room and ensure safe transfer of patient from operating room to ward or other unit.
  5. Keep abreast of the progress of and knowledge to maintain the highest standard of professional competence.

OSH  ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:

  1. Responsible to be familiarize, comply and implement the OSHAD-SF& NMCSH Al Ain Internal OSHMS policies and procedures/SOP’s relevant to their department.
  2. Staff should notify/report all OSHMS hazards, incidents, accidents and near misses within the premises of NMCSH Al Ain to their supervisor or department OSH Facilitator as per the incident reporting protocol of NMCSH Al Ain.
  3. Staff are responsible to assist with the preparation of departmental risk assessment activities and implement the control measure within the timeframe.
  4. Staff are responsible to attend applicable department OSHMS training.
  5. Staff are not allowed to tamper or misuse any NMCSH Al Ain equipment’s and its property.
  6. Comply with all OSH instructions, safe working procedures and signages within the premises of NMCSH-Al Ain.
  7. Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedure.
  8. Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety;
  9. Make proper use of all machinery, tools, substances, etc., safety systems and of all Personal Protective Equipment provided for use at work.
  10. Participate in required OSH inspection, audit and OSH monitoring programs.

Specific:

  1. Comply with OSHAD, DOH, FNAR and NMCSH policy/procedures related to Radiation/Laser Safety.
  2. Display commitment for limiting the radiation exposure by wearing appropriate PPE (E.g. Lead Apron) during radiation/laser procedures.
  3. Ensure in wearing and maintaining dosimeters during all radiation procedures
  4. Assist doctors in the operation laser/ radiation systems during procedures.
  5. Maintains a safe orderly treatment room.

BCP ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of staff (including all contractors) are:

  1. Achieving an adequate level of general awareness regarding business continuity Being aware of the contents of their service areas disaster recovery plan and any specific role or responsibilities allocated.
  2. Participating actively in the business continuity programme when required
  3. Ensuring information governance standards continue to be applied to data and information during an incident.

Additional duties/responsibilities (related to ADHICS) assigned to this position in clear, concise language:

  2. Adhere to information systems policies and procedures as required by Health Care Organization.
  3. Ensure that documentation in the health record reflects accuracy, integrity and authenticity
  4. Privacy, Confidentiality of Health Information:
  5. Follow security and privacy policies and procedures to the use of networks, including intranet and Internet.
  6. Follow confidentiality and security measures to protect electronic health information.
  7. Maintain data integrity and validity within an information system.
  8. Report any possible breaches of confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies.
  9. Apply departmental and organizational data and information system security policies
  10. Use basic word processing, spreadsheet and desktop presentation applications as applicable to your work.
  11. Demonstrate proficiency in Windows operating environment.Health Information/Data Technical Security:            Basic Computer Literacy Skills:
  12. Demonstrate use of email, addressing, forwarding, attachments, netiquette

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL  SKILLS

  1. Diploma in OT/OR Technology or its equivalent is required. 
  2. Current license in country of origin with DOH license to practice in Al Ain.
  3. Minimum 2 years OT experience in the main operating room or similar  setting preferred.
  4. Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/ desirable but not essential.
  5. Ability to adjust to group practice in an industrial environment.
