Responsibilities

The General Dentist provides direct outpatient care in all areas of general dentistry in consultation with dental
specialist, physicians and other health professionals as required for the best interest of the patient.
3.1 PATIENT EXAMINATION AND EVALUATION
3.1.1. Examines clinically and radio graphically the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity and head and neck
region.
3.1.2. Identifies and records developmental abnormalities, caries, fractures, root exposures, erosions,
abrasions, and defective restorations of existing teeth. Records condition and existing pathology of the 

periodontium, and other soft tissues of the mouth, temporo – mandibular joint, muscles of mastication,
occlusal relationship, and other areas of the head and neck region.
3.1.3. Orders, exposes, and interprets intra and extra oral radiographs of the teeth, alveolar ridges, temporomandibular joint, and other hard tissues of the cranial facial complex. Uses radiography techniques and
safeguards which will assure maximum diagnostic results and patient protection against radiation
hazards.
3.1.4. Diagnose existing pathology of the above mentioned areas utilizing other aids such as study casts,
electric vitalometers, transillumunators, thermal aids, percussion and palpation.
3.1.5. Interviews patients and records medical history. Orders appropriate medical laboratory tests to assist
in the diagnosis of systemic diseases which may affect the course of dental treatment. Takes and
records patients’ vital signs, (including pulse rate and blood pressure) and refers patients for
appropriate medical evaluation when indicated.
3.1.6. Plans a course of treatment based on the findings of the clinical and radiographic examination,
the patient’s needs, and consistent with the philosophy and policies guiding the delivery of dental health
care in the clinic.
3.2 PATIENT EDUCATION AND MANAGEMENT
3.2.1. Ascertains patient’s interest in dental health care, treatment expectations, as well as availability, and
when applicable, explains all aspects of dental disease, planned treatment, and costs as required to
assure complete understanding on the part of the patient.
3.2.2. Performs preventive procedures on adults and children including; dietary analysis, caries susceptibility
tests, prophylaxis, topical fluoride therapy, oral hygiene instructions and application of dental fissure
sealants.
3.2.3. Prescribes and administers pre-medications to patients as indicated and utilizes local anesthetics for
control of pain. Recognizes adverse reactions to these agents and takes immediate necessary measures
to counteract such reactions
3.3 PATIENT TREATMENT
3.3.1. Adjusts occlusion as necessary to provide an acceptable pattern of centric contact, an acceptable
pattern of grouped functional contracts and elimination of non-functional contacts.
3.3.2. Treats and restores decayed and fractured teeth of adults and children under adequate isolation to
remove decay, shape cavities to receive the restorative materials of choice (gold, silver, amalgam, resin, 

Qualifications

.1 D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an approved Dental School (American Dental Association approval or equivalent).
4.2 Three years in the practice of general dentistry. One (1) year of internship or family practice residency highly
desirable. Candidates with experience in Institutional Dentistry or group practice and those with higher
qualifications granted by Accredited Dental Colleges or Universities are desirable.
4.3 Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
4.4 Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the
confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws,
Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
4.5 Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD (Health Authority Abu Dhabi) license to practice general
dentistry in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
4.6 Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families
